Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and a commentator working with NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She received an undergraduate degree in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell started as a radio and TV reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). Within two years she joined NBC News as a Washington correspondent. In 1980, she began covering the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. Mitchell became the the chief White House reporter in 1992, and chief Foreign Affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell was host and an expert panelist on the TV program Meet the Press. She participated as a member of the panel at 1988 presidential debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell was awarded the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contributions to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell started covering for the White House in 1981-1988, both during Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell reported on many noteworthy issues, such as the arm control, budget taxes as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended various summits while in the company of President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
